General Exam Timeline & Deadlines*

 

Year 2 – Spring Semester Deadlines
On or before May 15 Student forms GE Committee and submits a GE proposal (three to five page double-spaced proposal, including research questions and/or hypotheses and description of empirical work) (references, tables, and figures are not included in the page count).
May 30 GE Committee Feedback: The chair is responsible to getting feedback from the committee on GE Proposal and providing feedback to the student on or before May 30.
May  30 – First day of Fall Semester Student works on GE: The student is encouraged to consult with GE Committee members to set interim deadlines and reviews.
Year 3 – Fall Semester Deadlines
First day of class Student submits GE: to the Marketing Ph.D. Coordinator and the GE Committee.
September 15 GE Manuscript Decision: The GE Committee reviews the manuscript and makes a decision – by majority vote to “approve,” “revise and resubmit,” or “reject” the manuscript. The Committee Chair communicates the decision to the student.
GE Decision
Approve  Student schedules to present GE research no later than the first Wednesday of December.
GE Decision: After the presentation, the Chair records a “PASS” or “FAIL” on the “Report on the General Examination for the Doctoral Degree.”
Revise and Resubmit  GE Committee Chair provides “GE Report” (in the form of a journal editor/associate editor report) to the student on or before September 15.
Student submits revised GE along with “Responses to GE Report” to GE Committee on or before October 15.
GE Committee R&R Decision: The GE Committee reviews the manuscript and makes a decision – by majority vote to “approve” (see “Approve” above) or “reject” (see “Reject” below) the manuscript. The Committee Chair communicates the decision to the student on or before November 1.
Reject GE Committee Chair records an “FAIL” on the “Report on the General Examination for the Doctoral Degree.”.
Student is not approved to present the GE.

Student is dismissed from the Marketing Department Ph.D. Program.
